Drupal 8 - Core Initiatives Progress Update - 11/10/11 Edition

Notes:

You’ll hear the words “MVP” thrown around a lot in the update this week. It stands for “Minimum Viable Product”, and it’s a way for us to define what “success” means for each initiative. More to come on this later :)

Also, our next meeting isn’t until Dec 8th, so you won’t see an update over the Thanksgiving holidays because a bunch of us are enjoying turkey.

Configuration Management

  • Ongoing discussions coming out of BADCamp
  • Working on defining the project

Next steps

  • Further definition of the project goals for this project’s MVP
  • Write architecture document that integrates comments from BADCamp and Michael Favia’s release

  • Redefine goals, must include changes to d.o
  • Redefine timelines, reestablish IRC meetings with a schedules and agenda
  • Work towards the MVP definition in more concrete terms

  • Fleshing out MVP for this project
  • Encouraging work on HTML 5 issues related to language, some changes already landed
  • IRC meeting last week, discussed module breakdown
  • Twitter calls to action and reaching out to get new blood on the initiative
  • Moving steadily towards establishing a language.module. Core issues being above thresholds and locale module updates not being tested are/were in the way.
  • Worked with good_man and David Rothstein on installer language selection UI. Putting down our first version and breaking out some of the advanced stuff to follow up patches.

Next steps

  • Work with rvilar and others to extend locale upgrade tests, so we can move on with language.module establisment
  • Installer language selection
  • Mentor my new contributors
  • More details to be added to the MVP

  • Rallied people to work on HTML5/Mobile/D8Mi
  • Putting into place good document management practices
  • Met with Greg & Gabor, have drafts of documents but am planning to review the one done for Jacine & conform it to that format.
  • Worked on MVP for Jacine and Larry. REALLY good progress here. Lots of good conversations about WSCCI - need to better articulate this initiative to the community. Further - trying to arrange a "code-in" between Boston and PDX.
  • PM meeting where we discussed the status of documentation and worked on harmonizing our drafts

  • Update MVP documentation to complete previous information and add new information about dependencies and resources.
